Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson wants Stuart Pearce to stay on as the manager of England Under-21s.

Jordan Henderson has revealed that he wants Stuart Pearce to stay on as the manager of England Under-21s.

England arrived at the European Championships this summer having won their last nine matches, but two defeats from their opening two Group A games eliminated them from the competition.

Despite that, Henderson has insisted that the former Three Lions defender should sign a new long-term deal.

"Of course [I want Pearce to stay]. He has been a brilliant manager since I've come into the 21s," Henderson told Press Association Sport.

"Obviously you can see his record - we got to the final a few tournaments ago and lost to a good team in Germany. He has been brilliant with all of us so I would love to see him stay on."

Pearce is widely expected to depart his position following talks with the Football Association next week.
