Rickie Lambert "proud" of Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez

Rickie Lambert says that he was "proud" of his Southampton teammates Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez after the duo made their international debut in last night's 2-0 defeat to Chile.

Rickie Lambert has said that he is "proud" of his Southampton teammates Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez after the duo made their England debuts in last night's 2-0 defeat to Chile at Wembley.

Although an Alexis Sanchez double saw the South Americans triumph on the night, Lambert said his teammates played well.

"I was willing them on, I was made up for them and I was so proud. I thought they did well in a very hard game," Lambert told ITV Sport.

"I don't want to say [the result] tainted their debuts. They are disappointed they have lost. They would have obviously liked to have been in a winning team, that is the same as anyone.

"I said to both of them after the match that it was a very good Chile side they came up against. It's just harsh that the first international has come up against such a good team."

Lambert made his international debut in August and scored the winner in a 3-2 victory over Scotland.
