Sir David Brailsford to assist England's World Cup preparations

England manager Roy Hodgson announces that British Cycling guru Sir David Brailsford will assist with the Three Lions' preparations for the World Cup in Brazil.

England manager Roy Hodgson has asked British Cycling guru Sir David Brailsford to help get his players in the right frame of mind for this summer's World Cup.

The Team Sky principal has masterminded Tour de France victories for Chris Froome and Bradley Wiggans in the past two years while presiding over a golden era of the sport in the United Kingdom.

He will act as a motivational speaker before the Three Lions fly out to their pre-tournament base in Miami and Hodgson hopes that Brailsford's words will prepare his squad for the big stage of Brazil.

"Dave Brailsford will come and speak to us, which we are looking forward to," Hodgson told Sky Sports News. "He has made a commitment he's going to come and speak to us in that period of time that we have before we play Peru.

"He will basically talk us about his experience and how he has found it preparing a team of the British cyclists' quality to win gold medals and to give the players a bit of a feel maybe as well that this is a fantastic occasion. One forgets sometimes how important these tournaments are and what big occasions they are, you don't get that many shots at it and you have a lot of time to regret if you don't give it your best shot.

"I bet the world is full of players who reflect back on tournaments they have had and have said 'I wish had done a bit more, I wish I had concentrated a bit more, I wish I had known then what I know now'. Maybe Brailsford can put a few thoughts in their head."

Brailsford, who was knighted in 2013, oversaw a combined Team GB cycling medal haul of 26 medals, including 16 gold, at the Beijing and London Olympic Games in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
