Elgin City too strong for Clyde

Elgin City beat Clyde 2-0 in Scottish League Two to leapfrog their opponents into sixth in the table.

Elgin City have leapfrogged Clyde in the Scottish League Two table after beating their mid-table rivals 2-0 at Borough Briggs this evening.

The visitors made the brighter start to the match, with Stephen O'Donnell and Hugh Murray both coming close to an opening goal inside the first 10 minutes.

However, it was Elgin who found the back of the net early on as Daniel Moore flicked on a corner for Darryl McHardy to slice into the top corner just 11 minutes in.

David Gray also got Clyde back on level terms 10 minutes later as he attempted to fire in from the centre of the box, but his finish was comfortably saved.

Mark Nicholson had a chance to double the hosts' advantage shortly before half time as he hit a shot on the half-volley from outside the box. Scott Durie got a shot away down the other end moments later, but both players saw their efforts saved.

The game was a scrappier affair in the second half, with both teams playing physical football to limit their opponents' chances.

However, the home side managed to add a second inside the final 10 minutes when Brian Cameron spotted Alan Martin off his line, allowing him to rifle the ball home from long range.

Clyde's hopes of a late comeback were dealt a blow moments later when Steven McDougall picked up a second booking for a foul on Craig Thomson, leaving the visitors a man short.

The result moves Elgin up to sixth in the table, level on points with tonight's opponents, but with a better goal difference.
