Doncaster Rovers 1-3 Birmingham City

Birmingham City move into fourth in the Championship with a 3-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers on Friday.

Birmingham City came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers on Friday.

It was the home side who started the better and they took the lead after just four minutes when Frederic Piquionne headed a Simon Gillet cross into the back of the net.

Birmingham so nearly levelled the match moments later with a header from Marlon King, but it drifted just wide before Nikola Zigic fired over in a lively opening seven minutes.

The away side levelled the match after 15 minutes when David Murphy headed a Zigic cross into the net after good work from King.

Doncaster might have regained the lead after 20 minutes when El-Hadji Diouf found Gillet, but his effort from inside the box cleared the bar.

Chances were few and far between in the latter stages of the half, but it was Zigic who came closest to scoring after 38 minutes when he struck the post from a King cross.

Giles Barnes might have moved the home side back into the lead with a header five minutes after the break, but he missed from close range.

It was Birmingham who moved ahead, however, after 61 minutes when Chris Burke struck a powerful effort from distance.

Burke twice came close to adding the away side's third after 70 minutes, with Birmingham looking the most likely to add to the scoring.

They did add a third, 10 minutes before the final whistle, when King tapped home a Murphy cross to secure the points.

The result moves Birmingham into fourth in the Championship, while Doncaster remain bottom of the table.
