Wigan Athletic knock out Crystal Palace

Wigan Athletic beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at the DW Stadium in the FA Cup.

Wigan Athletic have beaten Crystal Palace 2-1 at the DW Stadium in the FA Cup.

Ben Watson's opener was cancelled out by Aaron Wilbraham before James McClean scored the winning goal with 12 minutes remaining to send the holders through.

Earlier in the game, Cameron Jerome, who had been booked for diving, forced Ali Al Habsi into a good save and Stuart O'Keefe was also denied by the keeper on 14 minutes.

Callum McManaman could only fire into the side-netting for the Championship side on 20 minutes before Watson fired over Julian Speroni's crossbar.

Jonathan Parr suffered what appeared to be a serious injury and was replaced by Dean Moxey with eight minuted of added time played at the end of the half.

The Premier League side began to get a foothold on proceedings after the restart and substitute Wilbraham equalised for Tony Pulis's team when he stooped to head home on 70 minutes.

The parity didn't last long, though, and it was McClean who restored the lead for the holders when he jinked inside a couple of challenges before finishing it off on 78 minutes.
