Coventry City and Portsmouth have been relegated from the Championship after they both lost and Bristol City won this afternoon.
The Sky Blues were beaten 2-0 by already-relegated Doncaster Rovers at the Ricoh Arena while financially-troubled Pompey lost 2-1 at home to Derby.
Regardless of those results, the pair would have been condemned to the third tier of English football if Bristol City beat Barnsley at Ashton Gate.
That was to be the case as Karl Skuse and Jon Stead scored as Derek McInnes's side secured Championship football for next season with a 2-0 win.
Coventry and Pompey will not be playing Rochdale in League One next campaign after they lost 2-1 to Chesterfield, who survive for another week with victory.
