Chesterfield defender Sam Hird 'gutted' with Sheffield United defeat

Chesterfield centre-back Sam Hird claims that his side "did enough to get something out of the game" in their 2-0 reverse away at Sheffield United.

Sam Hird has claimed that Chesterfield deserved at least a point from their meeting with Sheffield United this weekend.

The Spireites lost 2-0 at Bramall Lane on the weekend after conceding a goal early on in either half.

Chesterfield enjoyed large spells of possession in the League One clash, but were unable to find a way through as a Che Adams brace proved the difference on the day.

"It's gutting really, all the lads are disappointed in there, and we thought we did enough to get something out of the game," the centre-back told his side's official website.

"Unfortunately we conceded two early goals in each half which killed us but other than that we dominated the game.

"I'll have to see the first goal again, the second goal was disappointing from our point of view, we're just disappointed considering how well we played in patches and with how many chances we created at the other end."

Chesterfield are currently eighth in the league table after picking up three points from their opening two fixtures.
