Conference Premier roundup: Bristol Rovers top after crushing Chester

Bristol Rovers move to the top of the Conference Premier table after beating Chester FC 5-1.

Bristol Rovers moved to top of the Conference Premier table after a comfortable 5-1 victory over Chester FC.

First-half goals from Matt Taylor, Andy Monkhouse and a Ben Heneghan own goal guided Rovers to the three points.

Oliver McBurnie scored for the visitors after the break, but Monkhouse grabbed his second and Ellis Harrison scored the hosts' fifth late on to wrap up the win.

Meanwhile, Will Hatfield's equaliser for Halifax Town denied Macclesfield Town, who had led through Jack Sampson's brace but were reduced to 10 men after Waide Fairhurst was sent off for violent conduct.

Jordan Burrow's double put Lincoln City into the top half of the table after a 3-1 victory over Braintree Town at the Amlin Stadium.

Altrincham remain level on points with Lincoln after defeating Southport 2-0, thanks to goals from Nicky Clee and Jordan Sinnott either side of half time.

Results in full: Altrincham 2-0 Southport, Braintree Town 1-3 Lincoln City, Bristol Rovers 5-1 Chester, Halifax Town 2-2 Macclesfield Town
