Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly leading Real Madrid and Barcelona in the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian has established himself as a key player in Eddie Howe's side since arriving from French club Lyon in January 2022.

During his time with the Magpies, Guimaraes has scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in 88 appearances across all competitions.

Having become a fan favourite on Tyneside, the 26-year-old was rewarded with a new contract in October, tying him down until the summer of 2028.

Despite appearing to commit his long-term future to the club, Guimaraes continues to draw significant transfer speculation due to Newcastle's financial situation.

The Magpies, who are owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, may be one of the richest clubs in the world, but they are currently working to stay within the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Newcastle CEO Darren Eales admitted that the club may have to sell some of their prized assets if they are to reinvest in their squad.

As a result, Guimaraes is one of several players to be linked with a potential exit, with Real Madrid and Barcelona believed to be among his admirers.

However, according to The Mirror, French champions PSG are currently leading the two La Liga giants in the race to sign Guimaraes.

The report claims that PSG have stepped up their pursuit and held initial talks with the 26-year-old's representatives.

Guimaraes recently visited the French capital amid the rumours linking him with PSG, who are confident about getting a deal over the line.

In addition to the two Spanish clubs, the Ligue 1 side could still be rivalled for Guimaraes by Liverpool and Chelsea.

Guimaraes has no immediate plans to leave St James' Park, but he could depart in the summer transfer window, with his release clause said to be close to £100m.

The former Lyon man is expected to be involved when Newcastle travel to the Midlands for Tuesday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
