Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis insists that there is no need to discuss Edinson Cavani's future until his release clause is met.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has insisted that he will not discuss Edinson Cavani's future with the striker because his release clause has not been met.

De Laurentiis said that should any club offer the £54m that it would take to force Napoli to accept a bid, then there would be a discussion but otherwise Cavani remains a Partenopei player.

"If a club offers £54m, then we would allow him to leave; the release clause will have been activated," Sky Sports News quotes De Laurentiis as saying.

"It's not fair that Cavani has distractions while he is playing in an important tournament like the Confederations Cup.

"Should we receive an offer, then fine. If this offer doesn't arrive, then Cavani will stay in Italy with us. The only meeting I've had has been with Manchester City, but the offer was inadequate."

Cavani himself said that he wants to discuss his Napoli future with De Laurentiis.
