Chelsea are reportedly attempting to conclude a deal for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner as early as this week.
Earlier this month, it was widely claimed that Chelsea boss Frank Lampard had convinced Werner to make the switch to Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.
Although there have been conflicting reports regarding the expiration date of the Germany international's release clause, Blues officials want to finalise terms with Leipzig and the player as soon as possible in order to fend off rival interest.
According to the Evening Standard, discussions are continuing at a pace, despite limitations caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
While it remains unclear when a medical will be completed, the report suggests that all other issues regarding Werner's contract will be resolved in the coming days.
Any official announcement could be dependent on Leipzig securing Champions League football, something which may be achieved by Wednesday night.
