Chelsea lead the race for Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, according to a report.

Chelsea are reportedly leading the race for Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

The 22-year-old's future continues to be called into question, with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur both believed to be interested in bringing him to the Premier League.

Chelsea have also been strongly linked with the Netherlands international, and according to Tuttosport, the Champions League holders are at the head of the queue for the defender.

The report, though, claims that any deal hinges on whether his agent Mino Raiola can agree a reduction in his release clause with Juventus, which currently stands at €120m (£101m).

De Ligt, who was strongly linked with Manchester United before moving to Juventus from Ajax in 2019, has scored once in 12 appearances for the Old Lady during the 2021-22 campaign.

The Dutchman has started all four of his side's Champions League matches this season but has not been involved in three of their last five fixtures in Serie A.
