Bayern Munich reportedly turn their attention to a Liverpool defender after it emerged that they are unlikely to sign Levi Colwill from Chelsea.

Bayern Munich have reportedly turned their attention to trying to acquire the services of a Liverpool defender.

Having appointed Vincent Kompany as their new head coach, Bayern will now embark on trying to strengthen their squad ahead of 2024-25.

Reports are indicating that they intend to renew their interest in Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, who they narrowly missed out on signing last summer.

However, improving their options in defence is also a priority and the German giants have recently been linked with the likes of Jonathan Tah and Levi Colwill.

As it stands, there has been little movement with either of the Bayer Leverkusen or Chelsea player, particularly the latter with the Blues not willing to cash in on the England international.

Nevertheless, it appears that Bayern's hierarchy have already identified an alternative who also plies his trade in the Premier League.

Gomez on Bayern's radar

According to The Mirror, Bayern are interested in signing Joe Gomez from Liverpool after he enjoyed an impressive 2023-24 campaign.

Although the 27-year-old started the campaign as a versatile option, he would end it with 31 starts and 20 substitute outings to his name in several different roles.

Gomez has subsequently earned a recall to the England squad ahead of several other notable names, with the perception being he is enjoying one of the best spells in his career.

He is currently focused on trying to make a positive impression with Arne Slot having replaced Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager in recent weeks.

As per the report, though, Liverpool have no intention of cashing in on Gomez during the summer transfer window, seeing him as an important member of their squad.

Gomez still has three years remaining on his contract at Anfield, while 224 appearances have been made in all competitions since moving to the club during 2015-16.

With Liverpool having parted ways with Joel Matip, they are short of central defenders, increasing the need for Gomez to stay put on Merseyside.

From Bayern's perspective, they have four options at present, but reports have indicated that Matthijs de Ligt may be allowed to depart the Allianz Arena for the right price.
