Andre Villas-Boas thinks that failing to make allowances for player power contributed to his downfall as Chelsea manager.

Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that he made mistakes that contributed to his downfall as Chelsea boss.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager endured a difficult time in charge at Stamford Bridge, leading to his dismissal last season.

Villas-Boas revealed that he failed to make allowances for the power held by a select group of players in the Chelsea dressing room.

He told BBC Sport: "I never had any problems with the Chelsea players. I have one big fault, which is maybe because of the way I was educated at Porto which led me to believe in principles that no single individual is bigger than the club.

"It is something that is easier to say than do and if I had my time again I would go against what I have been taught in that situation."

Villas-Boas faces his former club today as Spurs host the Blues in the Premier League's opening fixture of the weekend.
