Diego Simeone believes that "sweat, heart and tears" can bring his Atletico Madrid side victory over Chelsea in the European Super Cup.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has claimed that his side's attitude can bring them victory against Chelsea on Friday evening.

The two sides meet in the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco and Simeone believes that his side can upset the Champions League winners despite being underdogs for the contest.

"I believe, when there is a favourite, it is because one is better than the other," Simeone told reporters. "I'd prefer to be the favourite because you have some assets the other doesn't - that is clear. But the game is what counts.

"What counts is what is on the pitch on Friday - sweat, heart, tears - things which go beyond what is on paper."

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has recently spoken about the importance of winning the Super Cup.
