Chelsea to escape punishment for fielding weakened team against Liverpool

Chelsea will reportedly escape action from the Premier League if they decide to field a weakened team against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Premier League will reportedly decide against taking out punishment on Chelsea should manager Jose Mourinho field a weakened team against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Portuguese coach suggested that he will rest players as he has the Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid in mind.

The Blues are in contention to reach the final after securing a goalless draw at the Vicente Calderon on Tuesday, while in the Premier League they are five points behind leaders Liverpool.

According to BBC Sport, league regulations do not require the officials to punish Chelsea should they rest a number of players after rules were relaxed after Blackpool were fined in 2011.

Action can only be taken if a club starts several Under-21 players who are not in their 25-man squad for the league.
