Rafael Benitez: Marko Marin is "a good player"

Rafael Benitez suggests that he is close to giving Marko Marin a permanent slot in the Chelsea senior squad.

New Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has hinted that he is ready to give Marko Marin a chance to prove himself at the club.

A succession of injuries meant that the German international, who joined the Blues in the summer, barely featured under previous head coach Roberto Di Matteo.

However, with the 23-year-old having begun to prove his fitness with the development squad, Benitez has indicated that he could soon be incorporated into the senior team.

"I don't believe he's desperate. He was training really well," Benitez told reporters. "He's been injured a while, but I know him. He's a good player I know from Werder Bremen.

"Hopefully we can improve fitness for many players and create competition."

Reports have suggested that Marin could be included on the bench for tonight's clash with Fulham.
