Ukraine has allegedly made contact with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich for help negotiating a "peaceful resolution" to Russia's military invasion.

Last Thursday, president Vladimir Putin ordered mass troops into Ukraine, leading to daily fighting between both nations and mass public evacuations to bordering countries.

As it stands, it appears that there will be no quick fix as Russia attempt to seize control of capital city Kyiv, but it has been claimed that Russian billionaire Abramovich has been asked for help by Ukraine.

Reported by Jewish News, Abramovich has accepted an offer to try to negotiate "a peaceful resolution" to the ongoing conflict, which carries the threat of escalating further.

A spokesperson for Abramovich is quoted as saying: "I can confirm Roman Abramovich was contacted by the Ukrainian side for support in achieving a peaceful resolution, and that he has been trying to help ever since.

"Considering what is at stake, we would ask for understanding as to why we have not commented on either the situation as such or his involvement."

Over the weekend, Abramovich 'relinquished stewardship' of Chelsea, a move which has been perceived to be a way of protecting his asset at a time when the government could seize or freeze his property and finances in the United Kingdom.
