Juan Mata says that Spain deserved better than their early exit from the men's Olympic football tournament.

Spain midfielder Juan Mata believes that his teams deserved better after their early exit from the men's Olympic football tournament.

The Spanish were favourites to win a medal at London 2012 but have been eliminated after just two matches without scoring a single goal.

Mata says that Spain's performances were better than their results in the competition despite losing to Japan and Honduras.

He wrote on Twitter: "Thanks for your support! It's been a pity, I do believe that this team deserved more... we have to learn and grow from defeats.

"Now we have to stand up and play the last match with professionalism. Hugs"

The Chelsea midfielder will finish his involvement in the Olympic Games when Spain play Morocco on Wednesday.
