Half-Time Report: Frank Lampard gives Chelsea the lead

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard notches his 200th goal for the club as they take a 1-0 lead into the break against West Ham United.

Frank Lampard's 200th goal for Chelsea has given his side a 1-0 advantage as they went into the break of their London derby against West Ham United at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The first chance of the half fell to Chelsea striker Demba Ba, who was put through on goal by Lampard with seven minutes on the clock. The Senegalese international failed to make the most of the opportunity, though, as he prodded the ball wide.

Hosts Chelsea continued to be the dominant force and they eventually made their pressure count in the 19th minute. Eden Hazard picked out Lampard unmarked inside the area and the former West Ham midfielder sent the ball beyond Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Having fallen behind, the visiting Hammers set about making an attacking impression on the encounter and they thought that they had levelled up proceedings with 22 minutes played when Andy Carroll scored from close range.

However, the England striker was adjudged to have fouled David Luiz in the buildup and the goal was disallowed.

The remainder of the half belonged to Chelsea, but they were unable to add to their tally as the half petered out.

Hazard saw a low shot held by Jaaskelainen, while Luiz and Victor Moses were unable to hit the target from the edge of the area.
