Rafael Benitez says that Chelsea will take the Europa League seriously and will try to win the competition.

Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has said that he is determined to win the Europa League this season.

The Blues were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday and will now start their Europa League campaign at the round of 32 stage after finishing third in Group E.

"We think it is an important competition," said Benitez. "We want to go as far as we can. If we can win the competition that is what we will try to do.

"The Europa League is not important when you can't win it. When you are in the semi-final or final everybody wants to win it.

"Every competition is important to us and we will try to win it if we can."

Benitez won the UEFA Cup with Valencia in 2004.
