Petr Cech admits that a crushing 6-1 victory over Nordsjaelland came as scant consolation after Chelsea were eliminated from the Champions League.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has admitted that it is hard to take any positives from tonight's victory after the Blues were eliminated from the Champions League.

Rafa Benitez secured his first win as Chelsea manager with a 6-1 thrashing of Nordsjaelland but the thumping victory was all in vain.

Juventus secured a 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk to ensure that the Blues become the first defending champions to be eliminated in the group stages.

Cech admitted that dropped points from winning positions in earlier matches cost his side the chance to progress.

He told Sky Sports News: "We knew that it could happen and unfortunately that was the reality, the damage was done.

"We had a good performance and we could only hope but the result did not go our way. I think that we had results at home that cost us but the main difference was the Juventus match. We were 2-0 up and if you drop too many points there are too many difficult games.

"We are all in the same boat, the responsibility is the same for everyone. There are positives from the performance tonight but it's a pity it was too late to take us through."

Chelsea finished third in Group E and must settle for a place in the Europa League.
