Celtic condemn Neil Lennon abuse

Celtic condemn Aberdeen supporters who spat at Neil Lennon during a recent outing at Tynecastle for a Scottish League Cup semi final.

Celtic have condemned Aberdeen fans after reports emerged that Neil Lennon was spat at and targeted with coins during a Scottish League Cup semi final at Tynecastle.

Martin Reilly - Lennon's agent - confirmed that the Bhoys boss had to leave the Dons' 4-0 win over St Johnstone on Saturday after 62 minutes due to a hostile reception from a section of nearby supporters.

The Scottish champions released a statement on the incident, which read: "Clearly it is totally unacceptable for the Celtic manager to be treated in this way.

"Neil has complimented the way in which the situation was handled by stewarding staff at Tynecastle. We have an excellent relationship with Aberdeen Football Club and we are sure they will look into this matter."

It was the second time that Lennon had been the subject of aggressive treatment at the stadium after the Northern Irishman was attacked by a Hearts supporter during a league game at Tynecastle in 2011.
