Club president Carlos Mourino denies Celta Vigo sale

Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino denies suggestions that he has sold the Spanish club to Chinese conglomerate Citic Group.

Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino has denied suggestions that he has sold the Spanish club to a Chinese group.

It has been reported that Chinese conglomerate Citic Group were close to finalising negotiations on a £134m purchase of the La Liga side, who announced last year that they currently have no debt.

However, Mourino, who bought Celta in 2006, has insisted that he has 'not sold his shares' despite receiving "several offers" for the club, who are currently 12th in Spain's top flight.

"The only thing certain is that I have not sold my shares. I want what is best for Celta and I will do what is best for the club. We have received several offers and the last one arrived on Monday," Mourino told reporters.

Since gaining promotion to La Liga in 2012, Celta have finished 17th, ninth, eighth and sixth in the league, in addition to reaching the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey last season.
