Cardiff boss Malky Mackay admits that his side deserved their loss to Peterborough United this afternoon.

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has admitted that his side didn't deserve to beat Peterborough United this afternoon.

Top-of-the-table Cardiff fell to a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of relegation candidates Peterborough, bringing an end to the Bluebirds' unbeaten streak at home.

Mackay attributed the defeat to a lack of composure in front of goal, as well as backing his opposite number, Darren Ferguson, to keep Peterborough in the division.

"There are no easy games in this division and everyone can beat everyone - we are disappointed to lose. On another day Heidar (Helguson) could have scored five. We had 20 attempts on goal, did everything but score and weren't clinical. That wasn't good enough," said Mackay.

"We were beaten and can play much better. We want to be as consistent as possible and the league table shows that, but we have to work hard every week. We were bound to lose at home at some point, but full credit to Peterborough. They deserved the win.

"Darren Ferguson always has a good football team and if they keep playing like that they won't have an issue this season."

Cardiff remain top despite the loss, while Peterborough briefly rose off the foot of the Championship table, only for Sheffield Wednesday to win in the late kickoff to return them to that position.
