Bury's Gigg Lane renamed JD Stadium

Bury agree a three-year sponsorship deal with locally-based JD Sports that will see their ground Gigg Lane renamed the JD Stadium.

Bury have agreed a three-year sponsorship deal with JD Sports that will see their ground's name change from Gigg Lane to the JD Stadium.

The first JD Sports store was opened in the Lancashire town in 1981 and now there are over 350 across the UK, while the sports shop is still based locally is Pilsworth.

Bury chairman Stewart Day said that he hoped fans understood the financial reasons behind the move and also outlined the club's long-term goal of double promotion to the Championship.

He told the club's official website: "I hope our many loyal fans appreciate the progress being made to ensure financial security at the club.

"This is such an exciting partnership for the club and would like to thank JD Sports Fashion PLC for their commitment to our vision, which is to take Bury Football Club back to the Championship."

Last season was one to forget for the Shakers, who were placed under a transfer embargo because of financial difficulty and then relegated from League One.

They are currently sitting just outside the League Two relegation zone with 13 points from their first 15 games.
