Ipswich Town slump to Brighton & Hove Albion defeat

Brighton & Hove Albion hold on to claim a 3-2 win over Championship promotion contenders Ipswich Town.

Ipswich Town have missed out on the chance to go top of the Championship after falling to a 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion this evening.

Sam Baldock made the breakthrough for the hosts in the 18th minute when he cut inside and fired a powerful strike into the far corner.

Ipswich were only behind for four minutes though, as Daryl Murphy swept home from Noel Hunt's cross.

Just before the half-hour mark Albion almost regained their lead, but Rohan Ince saw his header cleared off the line by Hunt.

In the 38th minute Brighton did manage to find the net for the second time as Joao Teixeira burst past the Ipswich defence and finished into the corner.

Teixeira grabbed his second right at the end of the first half when he slotted home from Joe Bennett's cross.

On the hour mark Teixeira was involved again as his delivery from the right was met by Baldock, who saw his attempt saved by the keeper.

Despite Brighton threatening to add a fourth goal, it was Ipswich who scored next as in the 78th minute Freddie Sears placed an effort past David Stockdale.

Murphy came close to levelling the scores in the final minutes, but he poked his effort wide as Brighton clung on to the three points.
