Report: Brentford line up Gianfranco Zola as new boss

Brentford have reportedly held initial discussions with Gianfranco Zola over the soon-to-be-vacant head coach position at Griffin Park.

Brentford have reportedly identified former Chelsea frontman Gianfranco Zola as their possible next head coach.

No matter what happens in the closing weeks of the Championship season - Brentford could reach the playoffs and be promoted to the Premier League - the Bees are going to lose Mark Warburton because of a disagreement over how to take the club forward.

Owner Matthew Benham wants to implement a head coach-sporting director model which would restrict the coach's powers when it comes to transfers and scouting, a decision Warburton wouldn't go along with.

According to the Daily Mail this evening, Zola, who has managerial experience in England with West Ham United and Watford, is a possible candidate for the West London side and was at Griffin Park on Saturday for talks with Benham.

The 48-year-old's last job was with Cagliari in Italy, but he was sacked after less than three months in charge earlier this year.
