Preview: Bolton Wanderers vs. Morecambe - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Bolton Wanderers and Morecambe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Bolton Wanderers are looking for consecutive victories on Tuesday when they host Morecambe, who are currently fighting in the League Two relegation battle.

The hosts were dominant at the weekend in a 3-0 win, and are hoping to make a late surge towards the playoff positions, meanwhile, the visitors have not won in their last eight outings.

Bolton Wanderers have not given up hope on back-to-back promotions this season, as they currently sit 11th in the league, just seven points outside of the playoff positions.

Offensively, the squad have been impressive recently, scoring 14 goals across their past six matches, which included three on Saturday as they defeated Gillingham.

Aaron Morley, Declan John and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson all got themselves on the scoresheet as the squad immediately got back to winning ways after a defeat against MK Dons in their previous outing.

Consistency is something that Ian Evatt will be looking for from his team now if they want to make a late charge on the playoff positions, and the fact they have been strong at home is a boost to them.

The club have only been beaten three times at the University of Bolton Stadium, which is a record that they shall be looking to extend heading into this fixture.

The visitors are also in desperate need of points right now as they currently sit inside the relegation zone, and facing a team who are strong in front of goal is not a prospect they will be looking forward to.

Morecambe have conceded 66 times throughout their 35 performances this season, and only Doncaster Rovers boast a worse record in the entire division right now.

Their poor defensive record was on display this past Saturday when they were defeated by Plymouth Argyle 2-0 after goals from Conor Grant and Ryan Hardie.

However, the squad have managed to pick up points along the way recently, drawing three of their previous six matches, and they will take confidence from the fact one of those was against Bolton.

The two teams met at the start of February, where Cole Stockton gave Morecambe the lead, and it took until the 104th minute for Amadou Bakayoko to find a reply for the Whites.

Team News

Kyle Dempsey missed out on the chance to face his old team on Saturday due to a groin injury, but it is not deemed to be a serious problem, which could see him return as an option in midweek.

Gethin Jones also did not feature in that match due to the unfortunate loss of his mother, which the Bolton players paid tribute to within a goal celebration and by wearing black armbands.

Following a confident 3-0 victory Evatt may opt to make no changes on Tuesday night, riding the momentum of the victory into the next fixture.

Derek Adams was forced into making several changes for Morecambe at the weekend with Greg Leigh, Aaron Wildig and Toumani Diagouraga all being unavailable through illness.

It is unclear whether or not they will be fit enough for this fixture due to the tight turnaround, which could once again mean that the squad will be stretched.

Bolton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Trafford; Aimson, Santos, Johnston; John, Morley, Williams, Fossey, Afolayan; Charles, Bodvarsson

Morecambe possible starting lineup:
Carson; O'Connor, Bennett, Bedeau; Gibson, Phillips, McCalmnot, Cooney, McLoughlin; Connolly, Stockton

We say: Bolton Wanderers 2-0 Morecambe

Even though Morecambe were able to take a point from the last meeting with Bolton Wanderers, this is going to be a tricky test for them, especially away from home.

Right now the Trotters are putting together some strong performances, and their attack is as confident as ever, which should see them take all three points comfortably.
