Bolton Wanderers manager Neil Lennon has described the decision to sign veteran striker Emile Heskey as a "no-brainer".

Heskey completed his move to the Championship club earlier today having impressed during an outing for the Under-21s on Monday.

The 36-year-old was a teammate of Lennon's at Leicester City, and the former Celtic manager revealed that he had been trying to link up with the striker again for a while.

"We obviously were concerned about his condition but he played in a game on Monday night and he looked really good. I know all about Emile. I tried to sign him at Celtic a couple of times and couldn't get him, but I still think he's got something to offer," Lennon told BBC Radio 5 live.

"I think he can offer something at Bolton and I think he will make us better, so for me it was a no-brainer really. He's very happy about it and we're very happy about it. At 35 or 36 you think of a short-term deal, so financially it's not going to hurt the club that much.

"I just think he's got real quality that he can bring to the club. He's always had decent pace and he still has that, but his physical presence, his touch and his awareness of where people are is still of a very high calibre, so he will make us better."

Heskey had been without a club since being released by Australian A-League outfit Newcastle Jets in April.
