The 35-year-old has been without a club since leaving Sunderland last summer, and has been linked with a number of Championship clubs.
"It's ongoing. We've not tied anything up. But he's not committed to another club," Kean told The Mirror.
Rovers moved six points clear of the Premier League relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Sunderland on Tuesday.
