Blackburn Rovers held by Huddersfield Town

Blackburn Rovers are held 0-0 at home to Huddersfield after Jordan Rhodes missed a second-half penalty.

Blackburn Rovers were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at home against Huddersfield Town this afternoon after Jordan Rhodes missed a second-half penalty.

Blackburn were reduced to long balls for much of the opening moments, which Josuha King was happy to chase.

The Huddersfield defence remained stubborn, however, and continued to frustrate Rovers.

After a slight delay in play for treatment to Mark Hudson, Huddersfield began to make a move to take the lead.

Jack Robinson looked lively down the left, skipping past the challenge of Adam Hanley and cutting back to Nahki Wells only to see his shot blocked by Martin Olsson.

Rovers started well after the break, with King finding some space to guide an unmarked header just over the crossbar.

They should have taken the lead on the hour mark when they were awarded a penalty after Grant Holt handled in the area.

Former Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes, who has four league goals so far this season, failed to convert, putting his spot kick past Alex Smithies's right-hand post.

The home side didn't let the penalty miss affect their search for a goal, with Huddersfield well and truly under the cosh in the final 20 minutes.

Smithies seemed determined to keep a clean sheet when he saved a thunderous Lee Williamson drive.

It was Smithies again who denied King with his legs from close range with 76 minutes on the clock.

Both sides seemed resigned to the draw as the final whistle drew nearer with the hosts looking pleased with a well-fought point.
