Blackburn Rovers sneak past Sheffield Wednesday

Blackburn Rovers sneak past Sheffield Wednesday with a 2-1 victory in the Championship, thanks to first-half goals from Jordan Rhodes and Adam Henley.

First-half goals from Jordan Rhodes and Adam Henley were enough to give Blackburn Rovers a slender 2-1 win over hosts Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship this evening.

Wednesday's Will Keane scuffed an early opportunity when he shot straight at Rovers keeper Jason Steele in the centre of goal.

Blackburn took a while to get going in the fixture, but they took the lead with their first real attempt when Rhodes latched on to Chris Brown's headed pass to finish neatly from the six-yard box.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 26th minute thanks to Henley, who received a through-ball from Chris Taylor before converting into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

Wednesday's Keane spurned another good chance early in the second period when he spooned over the crossbar from Jacques Maghoma's free kick.

The hosts managed to pull one back in the 61st minute thanks to Chris Maguire, who made no mistake from around six yards out after a scramble resulting from a free kick.

Rovers sought to restore their two-goal advantage and Matthew Kilgallon picked out Taylor, but he was denied by Keiren Westwood in the top centre of goal.

Wednesday almost drew themselves level with just under 20 minutes to play, when Lewis McGugan produced an impressive save from Steele at his top-left corner, leaving Rovers to scrape to three points.
