Blackburn Rovers manager Henning Berg insists that goalkeeper Jake Kean deserved to start Saturday's match with Blackpool ahead of Paul Robinson.

Blackburn Rovers manager Henning Berg has insisted that it was a "football decision" that saw Paul Robinson dropped for the club's match with Blackpool on Saturday.

Robinson was replaced by Jake Kean for the 2-0 defeat at Bloomfield Road but despite Blackburn's fifth defeat in nine games, Berg believes that Kean deserved an opportunity ahead of his more established teammate.

Berg told BBC Radio Lancashire: "It was purely a football decision. It was a tight decision and a difficult one to make.

"Jake has not played much but I've seen him in training and, with the results we've had lately, I felt that we should give him a chance."

Kean's appearance on Saturday was just his third game for the club.
