Preview: Barracas Central vs. Argentinos Juniors - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Argentine Primera Division clash between Barracas Central and Argentinos Juniors, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Barracas Central welcome Argentinos Juniors to the Claudio Fabian Tapia on Saturday in round eight of the 2022 Argentina Primera Division.

The home side are looking to bounce back from a defeat while the visitors seek back to back wins having returned to winning ways in their most recent outing.

Match preview

Argentinos Juniors made it two league victories in a row as they saw off the threat of Tigre at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona on Tuesday.

Gabriel Milito's men raced to a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Gaston Veron and Javier Cabrera before Mateo Retegui pulled one back 11 minutes shy of half time.

El Tifon de Boyaca have climbed up to eighth place in the league table and are now just two points adrift of current leaders Newell's Old Boys.

Coming up next is a first-ever meeting against an opposing side who only just gained promotion to the top-flight earlier this year after spending almost nine decades in the lower leagues.

Off the back of a first away triumph in four games at the beginning of the month, Saturday's visitors go in search of consecutive wins on the road for the first time since last August.

Barracas Central fell to a heavy 3-0 defeat against River Plate in Thursday's Copa Argentina round-of-32 clash at the Estadio Barracas Central.

A first-half opener from Milton Casco saw Alfredo Berti's men trail heading into the interval, after which Agustin Palavecino's double in the second period put the result beyond doubt.

Prior to that, Los Camioneros beat Talleres Cordoba 2-0 on Sunday and moved up to 13th spot in the standings having picked up seven of the last nine points available.

With just one win in their last five home matches, Saturday's hosts will be keen to get the job done in this one and make up for a disappointing loss last time out.

Team News

Thirty-one-year-old Gabriel Avalos remains unavailable for Argentinos Juniors through a groin problem which he picked up back in June.

Javier Cabrera put up a man-of-the-match performance against Tigre, and the Uruguayan will be looking to deliver the goods once again.

Kevin Mac Allister is largely expected to sit out an eight match on the bounce, as the defender continues to battle with a muscle injury.

Miguel Torren will serve a one-game suspension this weekend following his sending off as a result of two bookable offences last time out.

Daniel Martinez is ruled out for Barracas Central, while Facundo Castro is a huge doubt having failed to feature in any of the last three outings.

Barracas Central possible starting lineup:
Gagliardo; Calderara, Paz, Ferreyra, Blasi; Vazquez, Arce, Mater; Tapia, Sepulveda, Bandiera

Argentinos Juniors possible starting lineup:
Lanzilotta; Villalba, Bittolo, Minissale; Cabrera, Moyano, Vera, Carabajal, Sanchez; Reniero, Veron

We say: Barracas Central 1-2 Argentinos Juniors

Both teams have blown hot and cold in recent weeks, and Saturday's contest could easily swing either way. That said, the away side boast a more experienced squad at this level, and we are tipping them to just pip the hosts to all three points.
