Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly contemplating whether to make a big-money approach for Barcelona midfielder Gavi.

Barcelona midfielder Gavi has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain.

Earlier this week, it was widely reported that Kylian Mbappe had decided to depart Parc des Princes on a free transfer at the end of the season.

While losing their key man for nothing will be a considerable blow to PSG, a substantial chunk of their wage bill will be freed up and Mbappe has allegedly agreed not to accept lucrative bonuses that were due to come his way.

As a result, PSG should have significant leeway to make a major impact in the summer transfer window as they bid to move closer to European football's top teams.

There have been suggestions that the French giants plan to push ahead with adding further younger players to their squad as they continue a change of strategy from the days of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

On the back of Mbappe's reported decision, it was claimed that a pursuit of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen could ensue ahead of the reopening of business later this year.

Osimhen would theoretically act as a direct alternative to Mbappe in the final third, yet it appears that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has another major name in his sights.

According to The Athletic, Al-Khelaifi is an admirer of Gavi and is sensing an opportunity to tempt Barcelona into a sale.

Gavi has been sidelined since November and will be for the rest of the season having suffered a serious knee injury while representing Spain.

Nevertheless, Barcelona continue to view the 19-year-old as one of their assets that they are against selling, despite their desperate need to resolve their financial issues.

Gavi has already made 111 appearances for the first team, contributing seven goals and 14 assists, while 27 caps have been earned for Spain.

A potential fee for the academy graduate has not been suggested, yet PSG would expect Barcelona to rebuff anything that is not a similar asking price to Osimhen.

Reports have indicated that the Nigeria international may cost at least €120m (£102.7m) due to the release clause that was recently inserted into a contract that he penned to take his terms to 2026.
