Atletico Madrid captain Gabi believes that he is "a different player" from the club's boss Diego Simeone.
Gabi has long drawn comparisons with his manager, who represented Atletico between 1994 and 1997 before returning for a second spell in 2003.
"I consider myself a different player from Cholo. The coach was very important to Atletico in his characteristics and qualities. Maybe my character and the way I live football are things he conveyed," he told AS.
"The coach and I understand each other perfectly for how we see football and I try to help in any way I can. I don't think I'm an example for everyone. It's true that I do my best. I consider myself a great athlete and every day I want to do better for everyone wearing this shirt and all the fans who support us.
"I'm proud to be here and to be able to defend these colours on the pitch. I am privileged to be here, to play at Atletico."
Simeone helped Atletico win the La Liga title in 1996.
