Early goals from Craig Bellamy and Martin Skrtel help Liverpool to a comfortable win away at Aston Villa.

Liverpool began the festive fortnight in encouraging style with a 2-0 win away at Villa Park this afternoon.

The winning goals came inside the first fifteen minutes in a game that was largely dominated by the visitors.

Craig Bellamy opened the scoring on 11 minutes, collecting from Luis Suarez to fire in to the bottom right of the net.

Martin Skrtel doubled the advantage just four minutes later, heading in from a Bellamy corner.

Suarez was unable to add his own name to the scoresheet, having been frustrated by the woodwork on several occasions. He was unlucky when a fierce shot struck the underside of the bar and came back out just after the restart, then similarly ten minutes later when his effort rebounded off the left post.

The win sees Kenny Dalglish's side jump past Newcastle into sixth, while Villa stay put in tenth.
