Tim Sherwood: 'Aston Villa match-winner Rudy Gestede has barely trained'

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood reveals that goalscorer Rudy Gestede has barely trained with his new teammates since arriving at the club from Blackburn Rovers.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has hailed match-winner Rudy Gestede, admitting that the striker has barely trained with his new teammates since arriving at the club.

Former Blackburn Rovers man Gestede headed in the only goal of the game to secure a 1-0 win at newly-promoted Bournemouth after coming on as a substitute for fellow new boy Jordan Ayew on the hour mark.

Sherwood admitted that he introduced the £6m summer signing, who has barely trained all summer, into the game earlier than he ideally would have liked.

"It's very early days," Sherwood told reporters after the win at the Vitality Stadium. "Some of these guys, Rudy for instance, have only trained for four days.

"He only played 45 minutes over pre-season for Blackburn. What we asked him to play there was probably a little bit too much to be honest, but we felt that it was the right time to put him on and he did extremely well."

Villa's next game sees them host Manchester United at Villa Park on Friday evening.
