New Aston Villa chairman expected "imminently"

Aston Villa CEO Tom Fox reveals that a replacement for Randy Lerner in the role of chairman will be announced "imminently".

Aston Villa are expected to appoint a new chairman "imminently" as Randy Lerner continues his search for a buyer for the struggling club.

American entrepreneur Lerner put the Midlands side up for sale in May 2014 and recently vowed to step down from his role as chairman after nine years if a deal could not be reached quickly.

In a meeting with the Aston Villa Supporters Trust on Sunday, Villa CEO Tom Fox revealed that his replacement would be announced shortly.

"Perhaps the most interesting thing that came out of the meeting was an update on something we had recently queried with the club," the Trust reported. "Tom advised that the announcement of the new chairman would be made imminently, as well as that of the appointment of an additional board member."

Villa are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with just six points from 16 games and eight points from safety.
