Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert determined to avoid injuries to his squad

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert says that his main aim for his players is to come through pre-season injury free.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has revealed that his main objective for pre-season is to ensure that his players get through preparations without any injuries.

The Midlands team regrouped this week to begin training for the 2014-15 campaign under the eye of Lambert and new assistant manager Roy Keane.

"I've got to get everybody fit for the first game of the season," Lambert told the club's official website. "That is the priority. We've got six weeks or so to get everybody fit and get them ready.

"Hopefully we will come through pre-season without any injuries. That is always my main target really. The games are good for fitness and trying to get a little bit of work into them but the main focus is to get everybody fit and be ready for that first game."

Villa will begin their Premier League season with a trip to face Stoke City.
