Aston Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner has revealed that Paul Lambert had all the necessary attributes to become the new Villa manager.
The Scot was unveiled as the new boss at Villa Park on Wednesday after leaving Norwich City following his resignation.
Lambert was up against several candidates in the running for the managerial post but Faulkner admits that he was what the club were looking for.
"We were very clear from the start what type of manager we wanted to bring in - someone young who could bring back that vibrancy to the club," said Faulkner.
"In our process we wanted to take our time and speak to a number of managers. A lot of that remained confidential - some of it didn't sadly.
"Paul was right at the top of that list and we're delighted to have him here as manager."
Lambert takes over from Alex McLeish, who was sacked at the end of last season.
