Aston Villa will reportedly outline a move for Roberto Di Matteo if they decide to axe struggling manager Paul Lambert.

Aston Villa are reportedly pondering a move for former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo if they decide to call time on manager Paul Lambert's career at Villa Park.

The former Norwich City boss has struggled at the Midlands club and the Premier League outfit currently reside in the bottom three of the table on just 19 points.

It is understood that Villa have made an approach to Di Matteo's representatives asking if the Champions League-winning boss would be interested in the role if it became available and it is believed that Di Matteo is open to taking the job, according to The Express.

Meanwhile, Lambert is preparing to take his team to The Hawthorns to play West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
