Saint-Etienne confirm that William Saliba is returning to Arsenal after failing to agree a short-term extension to his loan spell.

Saint-Etienne have confirmed that William Saliba is returning to Arsenal after the end of his loan period.

Having helped the French outfit reach the domestic cup final, discussions have been held regarding a short-term extension.

However, Arsenal recently claimed that they had been expected to foot at least a large portion of the bill for Saliba to play one more game for his boyhood club.

With no compromise being found, Saint-Etienne have acknowledged that the 19-year-old is returning to North London.

In a video captioned "William, your Green family wishes you all the best for the rest of your career", teammates and members of the coaching staff said goodbye to the centre-back.

Saliba cannot represent Arsenal in a competitive fixture until the beginning of next season.
