Everton boss Ronald Koeman will reportedly make a fresh approach for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud when the transfer window reopens in January.
The Toffees were one of three sides to show serious interest in the 30-year-old during the summer, along with Lyon and top-flight rivals West Ham United.
Giroud recently confessed that he contemplated taking up the offer of leaving the Emirates Stadium after being left unhappy with his lack of playing time last season, being handed just 14 Premier League and Champions League starts combined in 2016-17.
According to The Mirror, Everton are ready to pounce with a £40m bid after failing to truly replace Romelu Lukaku with a like-for-like option during the summer window.
It is claimed that Giroud is the Merseyside outfit's top target, but Bournemouth ace Joshua King will also be considered if they again miss out on the Frenchman.
