Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a £5m bid for Croatia midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger deployed scouts to watch the Dinamo Zagreb man, 21, in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Italy, according to The Mirror.
The Frenchman is said to have earmarked him as a long-term replacement for 32-year-old Mikel Arteta.
Brozovic, whose Dinamo contract expires in 2019, is also thought to have courted interest from Italian giants AC Milan, as well as a host of German sides.
Mathieu Flamini is the only other defensive midfielder in Arsenal's first-team squad at the moment, and Wenger is said to be keen on bolstering those options in January.
