Arsenal are reportedly preparing to offer Granit Xhaka to Borussia Monchengladbach in a bid to bring Denis Zakaria to the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window.
Xhaka was stripped of the captaincy following his outburst towards the end of the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last month, and the Switzerland international might well have played his last game for the club.
Newcastle United and AC Milan have been linked with the 27-year-old, who has not been seen in an Arsenal shirt since the clash with Palace on October 27.
However, according to The Mirror, the Gunners could use Xhaka as bait to land Zakaria, with the 22-year-old impressing for Gladbach during the 2019-20 campaign.
The midfielder has scored twice in 17 appearances for his German club this term, and Liverpool are also believed to be admirers of the Swiss.
Zakaria will see his current deal at Borussia-Park run until the end of the 2021-22 season.
