Arsene Wenger backs Arsenal trio for goal-laden season

Arsene Wenger urges Arsenal trio Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez to net at least 60 goals between them throughout the 2015-16 campaign.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has challenged Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott to hit 20 goals apiece this season.

The French boss came under fire for failing to sign a centre-forward during the summer, with moves for Edinson Cavani and Karim Benzema failing to materialise.

Wenger was unapologetic in stressing that Giroud - the Gunners' only established striker - was good enough, and believes that his refusal to bolster his attacking options will be vindicated come May.

"I think Giroud, Walcott and Sanchez can get around 20 goals without any problem," he told reporters.

"Sometimes you have to trust your players and play them. Then they get there. People want always the absolute certainty that they will be absolutely successful. It is not like that. It is not a science that everybody masters and can absolutely predict how many goals everybody will get.

"I would rather have Aaron Ramsey get 15, Mesut Ozil 15, Santi Cazorla 10. Otherwise, if you have only one player who scores, when he is injured you don't know who will score."

Arsenal, who have recorded three Premier League goals this season, two of which were own goals, host Stoke City at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
