Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars says that he would choose Barcelona over Arsenal if he were given the opportunity to return to either club.

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has revealed that he would choose Barcelona over Arsenal if he were given the opportunity to return to either club in the future.

Both Barcelona and Arsenal are believed to interested in appointing the Dutchman as a director in the future, with the 48-year-old impressing during his time at Ajax.

Overmars has said that he is open to leaving his current position and would return to Spain to link up with Barcelona if given the choice between the Catalan outfit and Arsenal.

"At a certain point the thing is simple: either I continue and stay here at Ajax or we go abroad again as a family," Overmars told Ajax Life.

"I have let that train pass six times. Both [Arsenal and Barcelona] are interesting [options], but I think my family would choose Spain. We were very comfortable there and I think that I would choose Barcelona."

Overmars represented Arsenal as a player between 1997 and 2000 before moving to Barcelona, where he spent four years before leaving due to a persistent knee problem.
